Saw this fellow on my birding field trip this morning. He has got himself some sort of mollusk. According to my teacher, this is not a common seagull since it is all grey. Working on figuring out what it’s called.
You can see what this guy has been eating for breakfast by the debris all over his beak.
The gull is not too discriminating on where it lands. This one is making itself at home on my car roof. Not sure if this is a Western Gull or Herring Gull.
Seagulls seem to have some kind of pecking order since this one had no problem knocking off his pal and the pal didn’t give up much of a fight. This happened repeatedly while I watched.
There are a large number of gulls in Peterson. Seriously, I had no idea there were so many types of gulls. In my mind, they are all just Jonathan Livingston (loved that book when I was a teen). I’m thinking this is a California gull because of the dark spot on its bill.
