Birds of a Feather Stick Together, Baylands

I came upon a bird scene early one morning at the Baylands recently. There were huge flocks of birds hanging out in one channel. The thing that struck me about this is that birds of one type stuck together, so all the pelicans were preening together, all the willets were together, and all the avocets were together.

It was a classic Baylands scene that proved difficult to capture on my camera. A thoroughly enjoyable morning, nonetheless. Bird watching with or without the camera is a great diversion.

The Americans, Baylands

The American White Pelican is a big bird especially in flight. I want to get a photo of one flying but every time I see this, it takes my breath a way and I forget about the camera. They can have a wingspan of 9 feet! We have many of them at the Baylands and this guy was hanging out early one morning fishing, lazily scooping up the fish while swimming along the slough.
